The Best Little House In The City
In 2007, I was promoted to Captain and made my way from the Rockaways to the Bronx. I spent a little time as a covering Captain at Station 18 in the Bathgate section of the Bronx, before being assigned to Station 17, the old quarters of Engine 68, which was moved to a new house two blocks away.
It took a while, but we built this Station into one of the Best in the City! What great people I had here. Snow storms, hurricanes, World Series (Yankee Stadium was at the end of the block). We were busy too. I had 65 people assigned to me. We ran 3 Basic EMT ambulances, 1 Hazmat EMT ambulance, 1 Paramedic ambulance, 1 Hazmat Paramedic ambulance, 1 Lieutenant Vehicle and 1 Battalion Car (me!). We covered about 1 square mile and averaged in excess of 45,000 runs a year!
